The source said Timberlake broke up with Biel on the phone. "It was about a month ago," the friend reported, adding the actress is in "severe denial and won't accept" the relationship is over.
"There's no way of knowing if it's a firm breakup, because with them it's so hot and cold," another source told Usmagazine.com.

Lindsay Lohan will not be titillating fans anytime soon -- the actress has again turned down an almost $1 million offer to pose nude for Playboy magazine.
The star was previously approached by editors at Hugh Hefner's men's magazine to strip off for Playboy's 55th anniversary issue last year, but stated she wasn't interested.
The publication's bosses refused to give up and reportedly approached Lohan recently with a new proposal.
But the actress, who bared all for a provocative New York magazine spread early in 2008, has declined the invitation once more.

Another day, another "nude picture on the web" story. In this case the latest scandal victim is Ashley Greene, "Twilight" star.
Apparently, Perez Hilton had the pictures up at his site. While not admitting they are actually pictures of Ashley Greene, her lawyer said in a statement:"The photos in question, which appear to be of our client, are illegal and are being unlawfully displayed. Our client intends to take legal action."
Given that threat, to avoid legal action, Perez Hilton took down the Ashley Greene pictures, making the scandal less scandalous. He replaced them with the statement:"The nude images have been removed from PerezHilton.com at the request of Greene's attorneys."
In a way, just as with ESPN asking the Erin Andrews peephole video to be removed, the lawyers have just confirmed the Ashley Greene scandal. Ah, well. She's just the latest celebrity to be hammed with nude pics. My wife would ask why we never see pics of nude male actors. Are they just smarter?
Chris Tucker is the latest celebrity that Uncle Sam says owes him money ... upwards of $3.5 million worth.
According to The Detroit News, the actor/comedian doesn't exactly have his taxes in line, and owes back taxes for the years 2001-02 and 2004-07 to the State of California.
California reported filed a $3,594,409 lien against Tucker on June 24 in Sacramento County Court.

Law enforcement authorities told ABC News the warrant for the search was based on preliminary results of the autopsy made available to them, which indicate Jackson's death was tied to the drug Propofol, a powerful anesthetic normally used only in hospital operating rooms.
Edward Chernoff, who represents the physician Conrad Murray, posted a statement on his law firm's website late Tuesday saying investigators from the Los Angeles County coroner's office have asked for medical records in addition to those already provided by Murray.
"The coroner wants to clear up the cause of death; we share that goal," Chernoff said in his statement. "Based on Dr. Murray's minute-by-minute and item-by-item description of Michael Jackson's last days, he should not be a target of criminal charges."
Although Chernoff has said the doctor didn't give the pop star any drugs that contributed to his death, Murray has nonetheless received attention from those angry over the singer's death. Source: KTRK-TV
